A shout-out to all the Trekkies out there — Merodi Media is happy to announce the release of a new Enterprise-based podbook series entitled ‘Dispatches From The Romulan War’, with sound production done by…well, you know.

To quote from the Trek 12 Days of Christmas website:
”Today marks the release of the first of a series of eight podbooks, a seven part miniseries, “Dispatches From the Romulan War” produced as a “Save Enterprise” project, followed by a special presentation from the House of L’Stok! Listen to them live on the TrekUnited Audio Center or download them from the Twelve Trek Days of Christmas web site. Come with us as we break new ground producing full cast audio narrations of innovative Star Trek fan fiction!
“Have you ever wondered what it would be like to listen to the news reports that might come from the Romulan War?
“Stylistically this is a ‘full cast audio book” which means that the spoken parts for each character are portrayed by a different voice actor. …Because of the nature of the texts – media reports – we have read them as narrations and yet , by careful choice of voice actors who have given dramatic deliveries and clever use of music and ambient sound, they can be listened to as a dramatic representation of the news reports!”
DRW was (and still is) definately a learning experience. While the audio setup proved to be fairly simplistic, this was the first production where I did not have direct contact and control over VA recordings or live interaction with producers. However, thanks to the help of Kirok L’Stok and several games of email tag, we managed to get most of the kinks ironed out before the release date.
“Dispatches” was a nice application of my day-to-day experiences at an NPR station, and gave me an excuse to investigate the news department a little further. It was great composing the dispatches as I carefully picked apart the daily NPR briefings, and inquiring one local news reporter regarding delivery and how she edits her own news segments.
I will not lie — the pressing deadline for this project was a mite stressful. Throw in the huge time zone difference between Kirok and myself (EST vs AEST, oh so confusing), and I once again found myself conducting myself around the old college-studying schedule. Funny…after graduation I had the silly, somewhat idiotic idea that, finally out in the real world, I’d be able to get a full 6-8 hours of sleep a night, no worries. …Enh, there’ll be plenty of time to sleep when I’m dead and gone, right? Heh.
More to come later regarding the production; just thought I’d put the announcement up here for now. Again, thanks to Kirok of L’Stok, TrekUnited and SaveEnterprise for allowing me to be a part of this project!
Until later….
